The recent success of Ayushmann Khurrana has again proved the fact that a great script and acting is always well received irrespective of the cast. Apart from being a well seasoned actor Ayushmann’s daring in choosing scripts with topics that are treated as taboo has shown that Indian audience is far more than capable and intelligent in appreciating a good movie, be it an edge of your seat thriller such as Andhadhun or like Bala dealing with the turmoils of a bald headed man.
This movie was a well crafted and a clever psychological thriller unlike anything Indian cinema has ever seen. The main highlight of the movie were several blink and you miss it kind of twists which kept the audience hooked and also the tight knit performances delivered by Tabu and Ayushmann Khurrana, It also happened to be the work that earned the latter his first National Award for the Best Actor.
Badhai Ho (2018)
This movie dealt with the issue of middle age pregnancy and how the society frowns upon something upon which they have no right upon. Ayushmann Khurrana’s portrayal of a son who is skeptic and insecure of the issue at first but comes to not only accept but owns his responsibility is something that resonated well with the audiences.
Handling a very prevalent topic such as premature balding the movie showcased the upheaval of the married life of a person due to such an issue. The parallel showcasing of the attitude two characters have toward something society considers as flaws is inspiring. In the end, Khurrana’s characters acceptance showcases how searching for validation in others is a futile exercise and gives a lasting message.
Dream Girl (2019)
Ayushmann Khurrana plays the role of a man who can converse in woman’s voice, he ends up working for a call centre under the alias of Pooja which leads to several mishaps and misunderstandings in his regular life, Khurrana’s character finds himself in a mess which results in comical situations and make it an enjoyable piece of work.
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (2020)
The movie showcased the several hurdles gay men have to face when it comes to acceptance from family even in Modern India, how even after the legalization and enhanced representation there is still resistance offered by families especially middle class.Ayushman Khurrana’s acceptance of roles featuring prevalent and hushed topics has made him a fan favourite.
Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017)
Shubh Mangal Saavdhan has Erectile Dysfunction in the centre of its focus a topic that is almost always discussed behind the close doors or never at all got a cinema presence, the story showcased the root problems and its implications. In it the message delegated is that stigma has its roots in the ignorance and accepting the problem has never made anyone any less of a man than they were before.
Article 15 (2019)
This movie dealt with a very sensitive issue that has plagued India for several decades Caste Discrimination, very unsettling and dark at times the story is not everyone’s cup of tea but at the same time it needs to be addressed and talked about. It showcases a very raw and ugly picture of our country which exists, the unfair treatment of people solely based on their caste is still ongoing in rural areas and this movie shines a beacon of light on it.
Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017)
This feel good movie is about small town shenanigans with well placed humor and good old romance. Ayushmann Khurrana plays the role of a person who after a heartbreak writes a book and publishes it under another person’s name but later his new crush acquires an affection for the book and wants to meet the writer which leads to several complications as well as a love triangle.
Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015)
The story is about a man and his plus sized wife, what was so nice about it was the gradual change in the attitude of Ayushmann Khurrana’s character toward his wife. He goes from being ashamed of his wife to a person who not only accepts her but shares mutual respect with, Bhumi Pedneker also gave us one of the strongest woman character who refused to be treated less and stood up for herself.
Meri Pyaari Bindu (2017)
Meri Pyaari Bindu has an old fashion one sided love as a plot, it mainly is an amalgamation of several events in a tumultuous relationship between the two characters portrayed by Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra respectively. The story deals with the problems such as the strain that failures take on the relationships etc, it is also equipped with a great soundtrack.
A periodical drama about the first Desi human manned flight was an ambitious project at the time although it was not executed with as grace and did not reach its full potential, the actors involved in the production managed to play the roles with unabashed vigor. The story has interesting anecdotes and does play with topics such as Vedas and the knowledge about aviation in them.
Nautanki Saala (2013)
A story of friendship and love set in the background of theater follows the life of Ram and Mandar. Ram saves Mandar from committing a suicide and takes responsibility for him although he ends up in love with latter’s ex which leads to bunch load of drama and humorous situation. This eccentric story about everything gone wrong was a light hearted and a feel good watch.
Not the most original of the topics but the performances by Ayushmann Khurrana and Rishi Kapoor were well received, former’s character really represented the ordeal and the mind numbing frustration of the person who is suddenly laid off from a secure job and now find themselves in new waters. It also dealt with the web of relationships between a father, daughter and a prospective husband in a very facetious manner.
Vicky Donor (2012)
From the very first project Ayushmann Khurrana set the trajectory of his further future projects, deciding to star in a movie addressing sperm donation and infertility in 2012, he proved that he isn’t afraid of tackling sensitive issues and is equally effective in playing happy go lucky Punjabi boy with apt comic timing.
Gulabo Sitabo (2020)
This upcoming movie will mark his collaboration with veteran Actor Amitabh Bachchan, the trailer already promises an eccentric and highly amusing ride of a story with two equally oddballs warring over a property at its center. It has showcased a high potential and audiences can’t wait to watch it.
