Your bone marrow is responsible for producing the Red and White blood cells in your body. Red blood cells play an important role in carrying oxygen through the blood. White blood cells are especially important for the immune system. Minerals are also stored in your bones.

As the name suggests, they have a flat structure. The flat bones consist of a compact bone on the outside with a spongy bone in between, moreover, like a sandwich. The flat bones provide significant protection to the body, and it provides excellent attachment points for muscles.
Adults have an attachment point for muscles in their flat bones, which is the red bone marrow. The red bone marrow is the soul responsible for blood formation. So some of the examples of flat bones are the breastbone, scapula, and cranial bones.
The long bones are the slender bones. It consists of a shaft that is the middle part of the long bone, which is usually filled with the yellow bone marrow and two ends. This shaft of the long bones is called diaphysis, and the two ends are called epiphyses. Since the long bones are relatively long shaft, they allow large movements.
A serous membrane called peritoneum is surrounding the long bones, mainly consists of nerves and blood vessels. Below the peritoneum that is outside the long bones lies the cortical bone. The inside of the long bones consists of a spongy bone. In young children, the spongy bone contains red bone marrow, and an adult’s spongy bone contains yellow bone marrow.
Short bones are cubic. This cubic structure gives a lot of support to the human body but allows little movement. These bones protect the vulnerable organs; They have a relatively thin outer layer of cancellous bone and compact bone. The short bones consist of only one low compact leg. Some examples of short bones are tarsals and carpal bone.
As the name implies, irregular bones are irregular in shape. These bones also consist of layers of compact bone with a spongy bone in between. The irregular bones provide protection, but also support and attachment points for muscles. The vertebral bodies and the bones of the pelvis are among the irregular bones.
A sesame bone is also a type of bone that is located in the course of a tendon. They are enclosed by periosteum. The best example of sesame bones is the kneecap. And these bones are also found in the hands and feet.
